I've been quiet about this subject for far too long, and it's time I came out to endorse some of my favorite bands.
First, let me start by saying I have an eclectic taste in music. I enjoy several genres. I can listen to almost anything. That being said, there are a few bands--just like there are a few authors--that I can listen to at any time, in any place, with or without clothing. Here is my list:
The Black Keyes. I cannot heap enough praise onto these guys. They are gritty, blue, thick, and phenomenal. Every album is great, every track is great, and they are getting better and better with time. If you're looking for two of their best albums, pick up Brothers and El Camino. You won't be disappointed.
The Gaslight Anthem. If you like good old fashioned rock and roll in the John Mellencamp/Bruce Springsteen vein, you'll love this band. Their music is catchy and uplifting, and their lyrics are smart. Again, all of their albums are terrific, but my favorites are The '59 Sound and American Slang.
Green Day. Who doesn't love Green Day? Great band, great sound, and they have 3 (count them) 3 new albums coming out this year. Hooray.
Beastie Boys. I have always been a huge Beasties fan. I was depressed--and continue to be depressed--about Adam Yauch's death earlier this year. Best albums are Paul's Botique and Check Your Head.
Honorable mentions go to fun. and their album Some Nights, and Imagine Dragons and their album Continued Silence. Both are are terrific--not a bad song on them.
So now you see what I listen to when I'm happiest. And now you see what I listen to when I'm not.
